Allston Brighton-Fenway Partnership and Sustainability PlannerThe Allston Brighton and Fenway Community Development Corporations seek an urban planner and community organizer to forge partnerships with local institutions and engage community residents to promote sustainable development practices, develop affordable housing, stimulate economic development, and plan their community’s future.
The Fenway and Allston Brighton, with their combined population of 100,000, are home to dozens of well-known educational, medical and cultural institutions. Alston Brighton CDC and Fenway CDC’s unique collaboration is aimed at forging a new future for “town-gown” relations in which viable and diverse residential communities thrive alongside successful, and even growing, educational and medical institutions. The Partnership and Sustainability Planner will provide technical assistance to diverse residents and community groups and engage them in community planning processes that advance the mutual interests of residents and institutions.
This work is split between the Fenway and Allston Brighton CDCs, both in terms of job content and physical place of work.
The Allston Brighton CDC is a neighborhood-based 501(c)(3) organization that engages neighborhood residents in an on-going process of shaping and carrying out a common vision of a diverse and stable community in the face of sustained economic pressures. That vision is evident in community-led projects that protect and create affordable housing, create greenspace, foster a healthy local economy, provide avenues for economic self-sufficiency, and increase understanding among and between our neighborhood’s diverse residents.
Fenway CDC develops affordable housing and champions local projects that engage the Fenway community and help respond to its evolving needs. Fenway CDC’s resourcefulness and commitment to the neighborhood’s diversity and vitality has advanced the shared interests of residents and our partners for 35 years.

Responsibilities:
- Research and disseminate best practices for institutional partnerships to our communities.
- Promote sustainable development practices in planning.
- Evaluate planning and development proposals against community’s vision and needs related to environmental sustainability, housing and economic development.
- Translate planning documents and development proposals into easily-accessible written and verbal summaries.
- Promote community involvement in planning processes and support leadership development through neighborhood outreach and one-on-one meetings.
- Participate in broad Allston Brighton and Fenway CDC community organizing efforts, including local and city coalitions.
- Facilitate program collaboration and integration of ideas and best practices between Allston Brighton and Fenway CDCs.
- Create a final document on key learnings and recommendations in collaborative community planning efforts.
- Staff regular meetings of the Allston Brighton Community Planning Initiative Advisory Board and of Fenway CDC’s Urban Village Committee.
- Supervise volunteers.
- Participate and support other organizational activities as needed.
- Qualifications:
- Two-three years experience in urban community planning and/or community organizing.
- Excellent verbal and writing skills and organizational abilities.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule including some evenings and weekend hours.
- Ability to work with diverse constituents.
- Bilingual/bicultural (Spanish) preferred.
