Fenway Family Coalition
Fenway CDC launched the Fenway Family Coalition in 1994 in response to the isolation and lack of support that Fenway families experience. The number of families living in the Fenway is down 37% since the 1990 census – evidence that rising housing prices and lack of family-friendly infrastructure are forcing families out of the neighborhood. Some of the Fenway Family Coalition accomplishments include:
- Sponsoring a number of family-oriented community events including the annual Safe Trick or Treating and Halloween party, neighborhood ice cream party’s, and a Mother’s Day Brunch;
- Successfully advocating for the designation of the Farragut School in Brigham Circle as a “walk-to” school in the Fall of 2002;
- Advocating for the creation and of two neighborhood playgrounds in the Fenway; and
- Developing an afterschool space on Burbank Street that is home to MyTown, an afterschool program that trains teens to provide social history tours of Boston neighborhoods. Click here to access MyTown webpage.
