Rent Control Advocacy
Rent Control Advocacy in Boston
For thirty years, profit-seeking corporate investors have taken advantage of an outdated ban on local rent
control, spiking housing costs and making it impossible for many of us to stay in our homes and
communities. Currently there is nothing stopping your landlord from raising your rent as much as they
want – renters across the city routinely deal with rent increases as high as $800 per month! Many
Bostonians and city officials would love to enact a modern rent control policy to help keep tenants in their
homes, but Massachusetts has a statewide ban that makes this impossible.
However, this ban can be overturned at the Massachusetts State House or by Massachusetts voters. We
can come together and enact common-sense, modern rent control that would immediately increase
housing stability for hundreds of thousands of residents and advance racial and economic justice.
Fenway CDC is part of a statewide coalition fighting for a bill that would protect tenants from sudden,
drastic rent increases while still encouraging development and ensuring that landlords receive fair
returns–click here for more information about the rent control bill we support.
Boston’s affordability crisis and displacement of longtime residents, working families, and young
professionals will continue unless we act now to re-enact rent control. See below for how to get involved
in this fight!

Rent Control is banned in Massachusetts and in Boston. There is currently nothing that can stop landlords from raising their rent however much they’d like. Help us visualize the support for rent control to push our state legislators to take action!
